Same-Day Visit or Emergency Room?

It’s not always easy to know where to turn when your child is sick or hurt. When in doubt, call us first. We’re happy to help you figure out the best next step, even if that means sending you straight to the ER. Here’s a quick guide.

Call us for a same-day appointment if your child has:

  • A cold
  • A fever or flu symptoms
  • Ear pain or a sore throat
  • A minor cut that might need a look (or a few stitches)
  • A mild sprain, strain, or bump
  • A rash or other minor skin issue
  • Pink eye or other eye irritation
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain that isn’t severe

Go to the ER or call 911 if your child has:

  • Trouble breathing or blue lips
  • A head injury with loss of consciousness, repeated vomiting, or confusion
  • A deep wound that won’t stop bleeding
  • A broken bone that’s visibly out of place
  • A severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing)
  • A seizure or signs of severe dehydration
